And now for something completely different !
So you have downloaded every version of every plane ever created ?
So you have 5 different scenery versions of your hometown glider airfield ?
So you have every flight planner, every EFIS, FMC, etc..... ?
So you have flown about 2000000 different Adventures and they're all the same ?

Nothing seems to rock your boat anymore ?

YOU NEED TO GO BACK TO BASICS !

How to get Sub Logic Flight Simulator Version 1 running on your computer !

Since Version 1 was never released for the IBM PC you will need to get an emulator first.
There are two possibilities, Radio Shack Model 1 or Apple II+

I have chosen the Radio Shack as it's more of a pain :-)

Disclaimer:

The following steps entail downloading software from the internet which may do strange things to your computer, or worse, make your mother in law spontaneously combust. Please exercise caution. None of the software is located on my server so don't yell at me if your Hard Drive is suddenly empty.

Also be advised that even though none of the software or hardware being emulated is currently being sold you are still most likely violating various copyright laws which will make somebody mad at you.

It is far more rewarding and challenging to actually install and setup FS1 then it is to actually fly it.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !

I'm assuming you know what you are doing, if you're a casual Computer user don't try this without proper supervision.
I will NOT be providing support for this!

Directions:

You will need four pieces of software:

The Emulator

The Rom for the Emulator    (The link is down... I'm working on it)

Alternate: get the apple ][ emulator , it comes with fs1 ! (no instructions, you're on your own)

The Operating System

The actual Flight Simulator

Create an empty directory.
Download all files by clicking on the links above and saving them to the new directory.
Make sure you save the romimage without extension.

Unzip everything into the same directory. There is a zip in the model1-e.zip, unzip this also.
Read all the readme's. Haha, just kidding.
Use vformat.exe to create a new virtual floppy called fs1. <vformat fs1>
Use vwrite.exe to copy FS1.cmd to the new virtual floppy. <vwrite fs3t80a.cmd fs1>

Start the Emulator <model1>.
Hit <F1> to enter the help menu. Hit <ESC> to exit.
Make LDOS1  Disk0 and FS1 Disk1. <F2 0 ldos1 F2 1 FS1>
Reboot the Emulator. <F2 r>
You should now see the LDOS Boot Screen. Type in any Date <6 6 99> and hit Enter twice.

Type <fs3t80a> to start the simulator.

Go flying.

d lower gear and switch to runway view
cursor left or right  throttle up or down

If the frame rate seems a bit high you can adjust the speed of the emulator with <F3>.

Hit <F2 q y> to return to 1999.

Now wasn't that exciting?

I bought the software in 1979 so you are looking at 20 years of development the next time you start FS98.

I wonder what the next 20 years will bring.

Probably a Plug at the base of the Neck
